Our Commitment to Accessibility
On the Boards is committed to ensuring that OntheBoards.tv is accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We strive to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards across our streaming platform.
Accessibility Features
- Closed Captions: All performance films include closed captions, initially generated via AI transcription and progressively reviewed and corrected by human editors.
- Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements — video player controls, navigation menus, forms, and filters — are fully operable via keyboard.
- Screen Reader Support: Semantic HTML, ARIA landmarks, and descriptive labels ensure compatibility with assistive technologies.
- Dark/Light Mode: A theme toggle allows users to switch between light and dark viewing modes. The site also respects system-level preferences.
- Reduced Motion: Animations are disabled for users who prefer reduced motion via their system settings.
- Responsive Design: The site is fully responsive and usable across all screen sizes, from mobile to desktop.
- Color Contrast: All text meets the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1.
Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT)
We provide a detailed Accessibility Conformance Report following the VPAT 2.5 WCAG Edition template. This document describes how OntheBoards.tv conforms to each WCAG 2.1 Level A and Level AA success criterion.
This report is intended for institutional subscribers, procurement teams, and accessibility coordinators evaluating OntheBoards.tv for campus-wide deployment.
Known Limitations
- Audio Description: Separate audio description tracks are not currently provided for performance films. The content is contemporary performance art where audio description would require subjective interpretation of artistic expression. Comprehensive text descriptions, artist biographies, and performance credits are provided as alternatives.
- Caption Quality: Captions are generated via AI transcription and are being progressively reviewed by human editors. Some older archival films may have captions that have not yet completed human review.
- Third-Party Video Player: The Mux video player is a third-party component with its own accessibility characteristics. Mux provides keyboard-accessible controls and caption support.
